Could have been friends

The old talk about whether girls and boys can just be friends. It mostly always ends up with thoughts like, we could have been friends.

Maybe I don’t completely just want to be friends with you. Maybe interests made me want to talk to you, but interests come in different forms. How am I supposed to figure out what sort of interest I have towards you? It’s not like I should use the time getting to know you to figure out the nature of the interest. Why are we always letting this dubious need to verify the nature of this interest hinder a possibly enduring friendship from forming? Also, what’s the deal if a friendship evolves, why are you scared?
